Green Cheek Conure Care
Nutrition & Treats
At JP’s Feathered Friends, our conures enjoy a carefully selected diet to support their energy, feather health, and overall happiness. We feed them:
- Lafeber's Nutri-Berries – A tasty treat and enrichment tool in one.
- Harrison’s High Potency Fine Pellets – A vet-recommended staple.
- Fresh produce like mango slices and bell pepper cores with seeds – ideal for encouraging natural foraging behaviors.
- Millet sprays – A favorite snack and positive reinforcement tool.
Cage Setup & Safety
Conures are playful and active, and their environment should reflect that. While our flock has a large communal cage, single conures can thrive in smaller setups with room to spread their wings. We recommend:
- Minimum dimensions: 83.5"L x 45.5"W x 45.8"H
- Bar spacing: Less than 5/8" to avoid escapes or injury
- Daily out-of-cage time for exercise and socialization
- Multiple perch types, ladders, and enrichment zones
- NO rope toys or anything where toes could get tangled
Timmy, one of our flock members, suffered an injury due to a rope toy—please learn from our story and prioritize safety-first play options.
Mental Stimulation
Conures are curious and clever! Boredom can lead to behavioral issues, so we encourage mental stimulation through:
- TV time with Planet Earth, Curious George, and Peep and the Big Wide World
- Rotation of bird-safe toys to keep playtime exciting
- Training and interaction through clicker games or step-up practice
- Daily conversation and music exposure
Our birds even have a bedtime routine! They snuggle into their perches listening to a sweet bedtime episode from Peep and the Big Wide World.
